St. Ann’s Foodbank

Helping feed our local community – St. Ann’s is the closest foodbank to us, located near Gerrard St. E. & Degrassi.

Each Saturday from 10:00 am – 11:30 am St. Ann’s Foodbank (a member of the Daily Break Food Bank) assists 75-125 people in our local community. They provide food essentials to people on disability, seniors, the recently unemployed, the homeless, new immigrants and families in need. Our donation will help St. Ann’s purchase a variety of much needed items, including a better assortment of ethnic foods, household items not usually found at the food bank (like shampoo, toothpaste,  diapers etc.), and add fresh foods into their program when possible. Our local community is a diverse community, with an increasing immigrant population. St. Ann’s Food Bank recognizes the need for ethnic staples beyond Kraft Dinner and they do their best to provide appropriate food selections to their food bank recipients.

Over the years the food bank has also become a vehicle for people to congregate and build community, and many of their recipients come an hour early to visit and see each other. St. Ann’s, when possible, also provides fresh hot coffee and donuts/muffins during the Food Bank’s Saturday operating hours.

St. Ann’s is our neighbouring church helping our neighbours. We hope you will help us help them feed our community.

MCC Toronto’s Children’s Ministry

Our donation of $1000 will go towards helping the Children’s Ministry with funds for Program Development. Over the past few years the Children’s Ministry has grown steadily and is in need of some assistance to continue to provide Children’s Church each Sunday. In 2013 the Children’s Ministry will be a focus for MCC Toronto and in May our tournament funds will be donated specifically to their program development.

[pullquote style=”right” quote=”dark”] A child may come to the centre who has never spoken a word, and then after music therapy, when parents hear them speak and form sentences for the first time, it’s life-changing.[/pullquote] A child with autism. A young woman recovering from a brain injury. A father with Alzheimer’s. A friend suffering from violent abuse. For people in need, music therapy can make a difference.

The ability and need to respond to music is innate and usually unimpaired by mental and physical health problems. No musical ability or training is needed. That is why music can be such a valuable tool in therapy. And makes such a difference in so many people’s lives.

2013 Emergency Relief

We have reserved this tournament’s funds for any emergency that may occur locally or globally or any great need that may arise within the churches ministries in 2013. We did this, because in the past, we have had specific emergencies and disasters abroad for which we collected donations from players and donated to various places including the Red Cross Disaster Relief. We will announce the recipient at the November Tournament.
