Why did our Choir go to General Conference in Acapulco?
MCC Toronto is one of the largest churches and a leader within the MCC fellowship. We have responded to the scriptural challenge that “to whom much is given, much will be expected”. We have shared our rich resources generously – including most recently senior roles and accountabilities assumed by Rev. Dr. Brent Hawkes, and John Vespa who serves on the Board of Administration, Jo Bell’s leadership in the development and implementation of the Creating a Life that Matters curriculum and Rachel Meyer’s work with MCC youth.
Under the talented musical directorship of Diane Leah, the MCC Toronto Choir has earned a reputation as one of the most dynamic and diverse groups in Toronto. In addition to inspiring the MCCT congregation by their music every Sunday, Christmas Eve, and Pride Day, the choir has shared the playbill with the Mendelssohn Choir and the Canadian Tenors, performed at the Festival of Lights, released two CDs, and performed at numerous concerts.
In 2010 we have this unique, international platform to showcase our fabulous choir. They will be the featured performers on the opening night of the UFMCC General Conference and will perform each night of the conference. The Choir helped raise the profile of MCC Toronto with more than 1,500 attendees. Their excellence and inspiration proved to be our biggest and best commercial to promote MCC Toronto’s 11am service webcast and promises to bring a world wide audience to the church’s website. Technology will continue to transform lives and the services we provide as we adapt to a virtual congregation that supplements our current congregation.
Celebrating 40 years of ministry, the “Imagine” Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) General Conference was held in Acapulco from June 28th to July 3rd. The goal was to send The Choir from the MCC of Toronto (MCCT) to sing to the over 1,500 delegates from around the world. This was an opportunity for MCC Toronto to build a bridge to a global community enabling a new audience to experience the joy and celebration that inspires us every Sunday.
Through the gift of music, an international language of hope and comfort was shared. People were connected and barriers fell. The MCCT Choir provided a bridge to the world: “Imagine”!
