On Friday, November 25th we held the final Euchre tournament of 2011. For 9 tournaments, players have been competing for the Euchre Grand Champion title.
The scores have been tallied and we have a winner! Players had to play in 5 tournaments to qualify for the Grand Champion Prize of a trip for 2 to Las Vegas! If players played more than 5 tournaments, their TOP 5 SCORES were used to get their average score.
The race was extremely, and we mean EXTREMELY CLOSE! In fact, there was a tie with the top two players averaging 59 points each! In order to determine the official winner, we went back to the scores, and averaged the top 6 scores….still a tie, so we went to the top 7 score average….still a tie!
What are the chances? So, we went to the average of their top 8 scores, and FINALLY the tie was broken – BY ONLY ONE POINT!
And the Championship Goes to...
The First Runner-Up Is...
The Second Runner-Up Is...
And the Leisure Pool Winner Is...

Many Thanks
Thank you to everyone who played in our tournaments this year, or volunteered at them. Thanks to the committee members for all their hard work and dedication! It was a great Euchre season! Special thanks goes out to Carol Steward of Travel Professionals International, for her support of the MCC Toronto Choir and her donation of the Weekend Getaway to Las Vegas. We encourage you all to avail yourself of her services, and the services of all the euchre sponsors!
The Euchre Committee
The Euchre Tournaments take a lot of organization and manpower/womanpower to make happen, and without our committee the Euchre Tournaments would not continue and be as successful as they are.
Committee Lead & Registration Coordinator: Romelda Morson
Staff Liaison: Diane Leah
Registration Assistant: Suzanne Van Rees
Volunteer Coordinator: Jennifer Alexander
Bar/Beverage Coordinator: Cathy Brown
Prize Coordinator: Mark Stephenson
Kitchen/Food Coordinator: Suzanne Christie
Finance Coordinator/Treasurer: Heather Magee
The Choir has also played a major role in every Euchre night, volunteering to do registrations at church three sundays prior to each tournament, and on tournament nights to run the ticket tables, bartend, work in the kitchen, help with the registration table, serve drinks and clean up at the end of each night. Additionally, The Choir has also always provided the salads and desserts on a volunteer basis every night. MANY MANY thanks to each of those who time and time again stepped up to assist wherever help was needed and for providing great food every tournament! Special thanks to Roy Dean who set up all the tables and chairs each night before all other volunteers arrived! Roy has been an invaluable help with this set up! Thank you Roy.
A personal thank you to the Euchre Committee
From Romelda: A small idea was born in Diane Leah’s backyard, when Heather and I suggested we do a few Euchre Tournaments to raise some money to send the Choir to Mexico for the UFMCC World Conference in 2010 – for a total of five tournaments with the goal of raising $6000. The original plan was to keep it simple, really simple. $25 registration fee, 64 players, a cash bar and serve hotdogs and chips for a simple meal and a few prizes for top scores…well we did that for one tournament, and slowly the idea grew, and people loved playing in the tournaments, so we added 3 additional nights for the Mexico fundraising endeavour. We’ve come a long way – to 9 tournaments this year with a Main Pool and a Leisure Pool, top 3 scoring prizes in each pool and a tonne of door prizes every night – all that AND a full smorgasbord of food (keeping the original hot dogs and chips idea, but we’ve upgraded the dogs and added to the menu). All this comes at a cost, so to speak. It costs time and effort. Ideas can be born and often die without a team of people who are dedicated and enthusiastic – these are both qualities this committee has. Thank you all for the time and energy you put into each tournament. They wouldn’t happen without all the effort! And that effort has not gone unnoticed – by myself nor the players. Many of them come to me and comment on how great the euchre nights are and how organized they are, and how much fun they are. Thanks to a great committee people keep coming back! Thank you all for everything you do!
