Why did our Choir go to General Conference in Acapulco?
MCC Toronto is one of the largest churches and a leader within the MCC fellowship. We have responded to the scriptural challenge that “to whom much is given, much will be expected”. We have shared our rich resources generously – including most recently senior roles and accountabilities assumed by Rev. Dr. Brent Hawkes, and John Vespa who serves on the Board of Administration, Jo Bell’s leadership in the development and implementation of the Creating a Life that Matters curriculum and Rachel Meyer’s work with MCC youth.
Each year The Choir performs with special Guest Artists at the annual Toronto Pride festivities, and brings Church service to thousands on Church St. This year the choir flies back from their amazing General Conference trip to Mexico just in time to arrive bright-eyed and ready for their performance on Church St.
Both special guests, Julie and Stephanie are bringing their amazing talents to this year’s Pride celebration, direct from their flight back from Mexico, as they both accompanied The Choir to General Conference!

Julie is also a featured artists on the Choir’s 2 cds, House of Love and Connected and has sung at Sunday services at the MCC Toronto many times, lending her voice and heart and spirit to each performance. Under the direction of Diane Leah, this forty member choir has gained a reputation as one of the most dynamic and diverse singing groups in the city. They have performed at corporate events, The Festival of Lights (at City Hall) and numerous fundraising events in addition to their weekly dedication to providing great music in church. In December 2009, The Choir will be featured at the Olympic Torch Relay Ceremony at Nathan Phillips Square.
In the 10 years that Music Director Diane Leah has been working at Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto, The Choir has released two CDs: House of Love (2003) featuring Louise Pitre and The Choir: Connected (2006) with Thom Allison, Alana Bridgewater and Julie Michels. These two CDs continue to attract listeners from all over the world due to an artful marriage of great music with a compelling spiritual message.
